The westernmost province of the Philippines is called Palawan, which is an archipelago. It is surrounded by Borneo to the southwest, the South China Sea to the northwest, the Sulu Sea to the southeast, Mindoro Island to the northeast, and the Sulu Sea. A breathtaking region with no fewer than 1,780 islands and islets, Palawan is a part of the Mimaropa Region and is a member of the Luzon Group of Islands. This famous reserve, which is a municipality in the northernmost tip of Palawan Island, is about 240 kilometers from Puerto Princesa, the province’s headquarters. The name El Nido Marine Reserve Park comes from the fact that sea turtles frequently visit the area’s protected beaches to lay their eggs; el nido is Spanish for “the nest.”
In Coron, there is a freshwater lake called Kayangan Lake that is extremely clear and has underwater caverns and rock formations. For fairly obvious reasons, it’s a popular location for photographers, and it’s reputed to be the cleanest lake in the entire Philippines. Even people who cannot swim can admire the unspoiled rock formations from vantage points surrounding the lake because the water is frequently so clear that you can see down to a depth of 10 meters.
A premier municipality, El Nido is made up of 45 islands and islets that are all a part of the Bacuit Archipelago.
